Reverts "Enable native compilation for windows-arm64 " (#141809)
Reverts flutter/flutter#137618
Initiated by: Jasguerrero
This change reverts the following previous change:
Original Description:
It's now possible to natively compile a flutter app for
windows-arm64. Cross-compilation is not yet implemented.

Uses arm64 artifacts now available for Dart/Flutter.
Platform detection is based on Abi class, provided by Dart. Depending if
Dart is an arm64 or x64 binary, the Abi is set accordingly.
Initial bootstrap of dart artifacts (update_dart_sdk.ps1) is checking
PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE environment variable, which is the way to detect
host architecture on Windows.

This is available only for master channel (on other channels, it
fallbacks to windows-x64).

On windows-x64, it produces an x64 app. On windows-arm64, it produces an
arm64 app.

Add check for Bank of Brazil security module to Windows Flutter Doctor validators (#141135)
Add a warning to Flutter Doctor if Topaz OFD is found as a process on
the system.
The protection module used by the Bank of Brazil has been identified as
causing build failures when using VS with CMake for Windows (see
https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/121366#issuecomment-1845703728).
Disabling the software allows the build to succeed again.

If a running process is found by `flutter doctor` whose path contains
`Topaz OFD\Warsaw\core.exe`, a warning message is generated to convey
this.

Native assets: roll deps (#141684)
Rolls the packages from https://github.com/dart-lang/native in the native assets implementation.

Most notable we're refactoring `package:native_assets_cli` for `build.dart` use.
Therefore, all imports to that package for Flutter/Dart should be to the implementation internals that are no longer visible for `build.dart` writers. Hence all the import updates.

No behavior in Flutter apps should change.

This PR also updates the template to use the latests version of `package:native_assets_cli` which no longer exposes all the implementation details.

Fair amount of typos spotted and fixed. Some of them are in comments, some of them are in code and some of them are in nondart files.

There is no need for issues since it's a typo fix.

I have doubts about [packages/flutter_tools/lib/src/ios/core_devices.dart](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/compare/master...anisalibegic:flutter:master#diff-fdbc1496b4bbe7e2b445a567fd385677af861c0093774e3d8cc460fdd5b794fa), I have a feeling it might broke some things on the other end, even though it's a typo.

Migrate Xcode projects last version checks to Xcode 15.1 (#140256)
Change the following in the `flutter create` templates. I didn't make any auto-migrations for existing apps because none seem that critical:
1. Turn on `ASSETCATALOG_COMPILER_GENERATE_SWIFT_ASSET_SYMBOL_EXTENSIONS` in iOS and macOS.
1. Turn on `BuildIndependentTargetsInParallel` in macOS template. https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/125827/files#r1181817619
1. Turn on `DEAD_CODE_STRIPPING` in macOS template.
1. Set `ENABLE_USER_SCRIPT_SANDBOXING=NO` in iOS and macOS template. `flutter` scripts don't work with this on. This might require a migration in the future to explicitly turn this one off. However at least for now if the setting isn't present it defaults to `NO`.

Add migration for `LastUpgradeVersion` so users won't see these validation issues in Xcode.

Run migrator on all the example apps. A few aren't Flutter apps so I edited them in Xcode.

Due to changes in Xcode 15, several variables such as `DT_TOOLCHAIN_DIR`

The CocoaPods issue was resolved by the following PR to their repo:

and was released in CocoaPods 1.13.0.

Also switches from an if-else chain to a switch for CocoaPodsStatus
handling.

List of changes:
1. Optimizations in FileTransfer. a. Use `stream.forEach` instead of `await for`. b. Type cast `List<int>` to `Uint8List` instead of using `Uint8List.fromList` results in (presumably) fewer copy and faster execution. c. Iterate through `Uint8List` with regular for loop instead of for-in loop.

[flutter_tools] catch SocketException writing to ios-deploy stdin (#139784)
Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/139709

This adds a static helper method `ProcessUtils.writelnToStdinGuarded()`, which will asynchronously write to a sub-process's STDIN `IOSink` and catch errors.

In talking with Brian, it sounds like this is the best and most reliable way to catch `SocketException`s during these writes *to sub-process file descriptors* specifically (with a "real" hard drive file, the future returned by `.flush()` should complete with the write error).

Also, as I note in the dartdoc to `writelnToStdinGuarded()`, the behavior seems to be different between macOS and linux.

Moving forward, in any place where we want to catch exceptions writing to STDIN, we will want to use this new helper.

If one method of finding Dart VM fails for CoreDevice, wait for the other method (#139754)
For CoreDevices we use a combination of mDNS and device logs to find the Dart VM url. If mDNS fails first, it will cause the launch to fail even though the device logs may be able to find the url. So if one of the methods fails, wait for the other method before failing the launch.

Provides support for conditional bundling of assets through the existing `--flavor` option for `flutter build` and `flutter run`. Closes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/21682. Resolves https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/136092

## Change
Within the `assets` section pubspec.yaml, the user can now specify one or more `flavors` that an asset belongs to. Consider this example:

```yaml
# pubspec.yaml
flutter:
  assets:
    - assets/normal-asset.png
    - path: assets/vanilla/ice-cream.png
      flavors:
        - vanilla
    - path: assets/strawberry/ice-cream.png
      flavors:
        - strawberry
```

With this pubspec,
* `flutter run --flavor vanilla` will not include `assets/strawberry/ice-cream.png` in the build output.
* `flutter run --flavor strawberry` will not include `assets/vanilla/ice-cream.png`.
* `flutter run` will only include `assets/normal-asset.png`.

## Open questions

* Should this be supported for all platforms, or should this change be limited to ones with documented `--flavor` support (Android, iOS, and (implicitly) MacOS)? This PR currently only enables this feature for officially supported platforms.

## Design thoughts, what this PR does not do, etc.

### This does not provide an automatic mapping/resolution of asset keys/paths to others based on flavor at runtime.

The implementation in this PR represents a simplest approach. Notably, it does not give Flutter the ability to dynamically choose an asset based on flavor using a single asset key. For example, one can't use `Image.asset('config.json')` to dynamically choose between different "flavors" of `config.json` (such as `dev-flavor/config.json` or `prod-flavor/config.json`). However, a user could always implement such a mechanism in their project or in a library by examining the flavor at runtime.

### When multiple entries affect the same file and 1) at least one of these entries have a `flavors` list provided and 2) these lists are not equivalent, we always consider the manifest to be ambiguous and will throw a `ToolExit`.

<details>
For example, these manifests would all be considered ambiguous:

```yaml
assets:
  - assets/
  - path: assets/vanilla.png
    flavors:
      - vanilla
assets:
  - path: assets/vanilla/
    flavors:
      - vanilla
  - path: assets/vanilla/cherry.png
     flavor:
      - cherry
# Thinking towards the future where we might add glob/regex support and more conditions other than flavor:
assets:
  - path: assets/vanilla/**
    flavors:
      - vanilla
  - path: assets/**/ios/**
    platforms:
       - ios
# Ambiguous in the case of assets like "assets/vanilla/ios/icon.svg" since we
# don't know if flavor `vanilla` and platform `ios` should be combined using or-logic or and-logic.
```

See [this review comment thread](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/132985#discussion_r1381909942) for the full story on how I arrived at this decision.

### This does not support Android's multidimensional flavors feature (in an intuitive way)

<details>

Conder this excerpt from a Flutter project's android/app/build.gradle file:

```groovy
android {
    // ...
    flavorDimensions "mode", "api"
    productFlavors {
        free {
            dimension "mode"
            applicationIdSuffix ".free"
        }
        premium {
            dimension "mode"
            applicationIdSuffix ".premium"
        }
        minApi23 {
            dimension "api"
            versionNameSuffix "-minApi23"
        }
        minApi21 {
            dimension "api"
            versionNameSuffix "-minApi21"
        }
    }
}
```

In this setup, the following values are valid `--flavor` are valid `freeMinApi21`, `freeMinApi23`, `premiumMinApi21`, and `premiumMinApi23`. We call these values "flavor combinations". Consider the following from the Android documentation[^1]:

> In addition to the source set directories you can create for each individual product flavor and build variant, you can also create source set directories for each combination of product flavors. For example, you can create and add Java sources to the src/demoMinApi24/java/ directory, and Gradle uses those sources only when building a variant that combines those two product flavors.
>
> Source sets you create for product flavor combinations have a higher priority than source sets that belong to each individual product flavor. To learn more about source sets and how Gradle merges resources, read the section about how to [create source sets](https://developer.android.com/build/build-variants#sourcesets).

This feature will not behave in this way. If a user utilizes this feature and also Android's multidimensional flavors feature, they will have to list out all flavor combinations that contain the flavor they want to limit an asset to:

```yaml
assets:
  - assets/free/
    flavors:
      - freeMinApi21
      - freeMinApi23
```

This is mostly due to a technical limitation in the hot-reload feature of `flutter run`. During a hot reload, the tool will try to update the asset bundle on the device, but the tool does not know the flavors contained within the flavor combination (that the user passes to `--flavor`). Gradle is the source of truth of what flavors were involved in the build, and `flutter run` currently does not access to that information since it's an implementation detail of the build process. We could bubble up this information, but it would require a nontrivial amount of engineering work, and it's unclear how desired this functionality is. It might not be worth implementing.

Native assets support for Android (#135148)
Support for FFI calls with `@Native external` functions through Native assets on Android. This enables bundling native code without any build-system boilerplate code.

For more info see:

* https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/129757

### Implementation details for Android.

Mainly follows the design of the previous PRs.

For Android, we detect the compilers inside the NDK inside SDK.

And bundling of the assets is done by the flutter.groovy file.

The `minSdkVersion` is propagated from the flutter.groovy file as well.

The NDK is not part of `flutter doctor`, and users can omit it if no native assets have to be build.
However, if any native assets must be built, flutter throws a tool exit if the NDK is not installed.

Add 2 app is not part of this PR yet, instead `flutter build aar` will tool exit if there are any native assets.

have Java.version return null if java --version fails or cannot be run (#139614)
## Summary
Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/139180, where `flutter create` could crash if the `java` binary the tool found cannot be run.

## Context

At startup, the tool searches for a Java installation[^1]. Unless the located installation is from [an Android Studio installation](e1967ecabf/packages/flutter_tools/lib/src/android/android_studio.dart (L163)), the tool does not verify that the binary is runnable. For more, see https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/139613, which tracks this inconsistency in behavior.

This means that in the scenario where

1) the user does not have Android Studio installed or the java binary found within cannot be run **and**
2) the user has a) `flutter config --jdk-dir` set, b) `JAVA_HOME` set in their environment, **or** c) `java` on their system path **and**
3) the java binary we think we found during cannot be run (or `java --version` fails), **then**

the user running `flutter create` with Android enabled will hit a tool crash.

## Change

`Java.version` should return null if version checking fails for any reason. [This is documented behavior](48f57621ad/packages/flutter_tools/lib/src/android/java.dart (L136)). Therefore, we'll update the implementation to first verify that the binary is runnable. If it isn't, it will return `null`.

[^1]: We find java by calling the static `Java.find`, see: 48187028c1/packages/flutter_tools/lib/src/context_runner.dart (L271)
[^2]: This PR doesn't change this, as this would be too dangerous to cherry-pick into stable.

Checks `pod install` output for the case where a pod requires a higher minimum OS deployment target version than the app is set to use, and attempts to turn it into a more actionable error message. CommandResultEvent migrated (#138165)
Related to tracker issue:
- https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/128251

This event was only called from one file (`flutter_command.dart`). With the previous implementation, we actually sent 2 events, one for the result of the `commandPath` and another containing the `maxRss` value from `ProcessInfo`.

I have consolidated this down to just one event and used a function to safely get the `maxRss` value, or return null when if there was an error getting that integer value

[flutter_tools] toolexit when using plugins with preview device (#136936)
Part of https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/130277

Without this, if a user runs an app that has plugins that call method channels with the `preview` device, the app will build successfully, however, they will get a runtime error when their dart code tries to call the method channel that does not exist in the native build (which was pre-built and thus does not include the plugin code).

This change adds a validation when injecting plugins that will tool exit if the device-id is `preview` and their project contains plugins with method channels.

[web] Add 'nonce' prop to flutter.js loadEntrypoint (#137204)
## Description

This PR adds a `nonce` parameter to flutter.js' `loadEntrypoint` method.

When set, loadEntrypoint will add a `nonce` attribute to the `main.dart.js` script tag, which allows Flutter to run in environments slightly more restricted by CSP; those that don't add `'self'` as a valid source for `script-src`.

----

### CSP directive

After this change, the CSP directive for a Flutter Web index.html can be:

```
script-src 'nonce-YOUR_NONCE_VALUE' 'wasm-unsafe-eval';
font-src https://fonts.gstatic.com;
style-src 'nonce-YOUR_NONCE_VALUE';
```

When CSP is set via a `meta` tag (like in the test accompanying this change), and to use a service worker, the CSP needs an additional directive: [`worker-src 'self';`](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Headers/Content-Security-Policy/worker-src)

When CSP set via response headers, the CSP that applies to `flutter_service_worker.js` is determined by its response headers. See **Web Workers API > [Content security policy](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Web_Workers_API/Using_web_workers#content_security_policy)** in MDN.)

----

### Initialization

If the CSP is set to disallow `script-src 'self'`, a nonce needs to also be passed to `loadEntrypoint`:

```javascript
  _flutter.loader.loadEntrypoint({
    nonce: 'SOME_NONCE',
    onEntrypointLoaded: (engineInitializer) async {
      const appRunner = await engineInitializer.initializeEngine({
        nonce: 'SOME_NONCE',
      });
      appRunner.runApp();
    },
  });
```

(`nonce` shows twice for now, because the entrypoint loader script doesn't have direct access to the `initializeEngine` call.)

give throwsToolExit a more useful description (#136694)
Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/136698.

Alters how `throwToolExit` creates its matcher. This results is an improved description of the matcher.

The mismatch description isn't improved by this, but I writing an entirely custom matcher to fix this isn't ideal either. We can instead mitigate the issue by augmenting the `toString` implementation of `ToolExit` to include the exit code, if it is non-null.

With these changes, the first few lines of output from a test would look like this:

```
Expected: throws <Instance of 'ToolExit'> with `exitCode`: <42> and `message`: contains 'message'
  Actual: <Closure: () => Never>
   Which: threw ToolExit:<Exit code: 41232. Error: message>
Some users have their Xcode settings set to not debug (see example here https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/136197#issuecomment-1766834195). Reverts "Use coverage.collect's coverableLineCache param to speed up coverage" (#137121)
Reverts flutter/flutter#136851
Initiated by: CaseyHillers
This change reverts the following previous change:
Original Description:
One of the reasons gathering coverage information is expensive is that we have to force compile every function in the libraries we're interested in. Without this, functions that haven't been invoked (so haven't been compiled) won't have any line number information, so the coverage tool doesn't know which lines to add to the list of misses. In flutter's case, the test infra spawns many VMs, and each of these needs to recompile all those libraries.
To fix this, we need a way of skipping force compilation for libraries we've already seen in previous tests, without losing the information about which lines in each library are coverable. So I [added](https://github.com/dart-lang/coverage/pull/466) the `coverableLineCache` to `coverage.collect` in package:coverage v1.7.0. This cache starts out empty, but fills up with lists of all the lines that are coverable for every library as coverage is gathered. package:coverage can then tell the VM not to force compile any libraries in this cache (using `getSourceReport`'s `librariesAlreadyCompiled` param). So the first test suite will still have to compile everything, but subsequent test suites will be much faster.
This speeds up coverage collection significantly, for large test suites:
| Running flutter/packages/flutter tests... | Time | Overhead |
| --- | --- | --- |
| without coverage | 8:53 | - |
| with coverage | 20:25 | 130% |
| with `coverableLineCache` | 12:21 | 40% |
So the first test suite will still have to compile everything, but subsequent test suites will be much faster.
This speeds up coverage collection significantly, for large test suites:
| Running flutter/packages/flutter tests... | Time | Overhead |
| --- | --- | --- |
| without coverage | 8:53 | - |
| with coverage | 20:25 | 130% |
| with `coverableLineCache` | 12:21 | 40% |
Default NativeAssets Darwin and IOS target archs if missing (#136948)
Make the `NativeAssets` target consistent with `build_info.dart`'s
documentation on missing `IosArchs` or `DarwinArchs`.
Bug:
* https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/136931
Also, updates the doc to reflect that MacOS is by default built for both
x64 and arm64. The PR making universal binaries the default didn't
update the doc comment.
* https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/100271
Please note that these defines are handled inconsistently in
`flutter_tools`. In some places they default to what's specified in the
doc-comment. In other places a `MissingDefineException` is thrown. I
believe the code around `build_info.dart` and the `environment` could
benefit from a wrapping so that defaults or missing definitions are
handled consistently in the code base.
Flutter preview device (#135639)
Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/130277
This PR does two things:
1. introduce a hidden `flutter build _preview` command, that will build a debug windows desktop app and copy it into the SDK's binary cache. This command is only intended to be run during packaging.
2. introduce a new device type, called `PreviewDevice`, which relies on the prebuilt desktop debug app from step 1, copies it into the target app's assets build folder, and then hot reloads their dart code into it.
clean up --dart-define-from-file option tests (#135980)
Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/134279.
Changes:
* Moves all tests of `--dart-define-from-file` behavior from `build_bundle_test.dart` and `assemble_test.dart` to `flutter_command_test.dart`.
* Deletes a duplicate test of malformed JSON detection behavior.
* Renames the `useDartDefineFromFileOption` method of `FlutterCommand` to `_usesDartDefineFromFileOption`. This 1) makes the name more consistent with the other `uses*Option` methods and 2) hides the method since it is not used outside of the file.
* Renames several tests to better articulate what is under test and what the expected result is.
* Adds a test for the case where a `.env` file with a malformed line is provided to `--dart-define-from-file`.
Support --web-header option for flutter run (#136297)
Adds support for a new --web-header option to flutter run.
Creates a workaround for https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/127902
This PR allows adding additional headers for the flutter run web server. This is useful to add headers like Cross-Origin-Embedder-Policy and Cross-Origin-Opener-Policy without the use of a proxy server. These headers are required enable advanced web features. This approach provides flexibility to the developer to make use of the feature as they see fit and is backward-compatible. One tradeoff is that it increases the surface area to support for future changes to the flutter web server.
https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/127902 is not fully addressed by this change. The solution for that task will be more opinionated. This PR creates a general-purpose workaround for anyone who needs a solution sooner while the bigger solution is developed.
Reverts "Skip injecting Bonjour settings when port publication is disabled" (#136750)
Reverts flutter/flutter#136562
Initiated by: vashworth
This change reverts the following previous change:
Original Description:
Some of our tests in CI are triggering the `NSLocalNetworkUsageDescription` dialog when they're not supposed to (https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/129836) since it's disabled via flags (`--no-publish-port` for flutter/flutter and `--disable-vm-service-publication` for flutter/engine).
Normally, we inject `NSLocalNetworkUsageDescription` (and other bonjour settings) to the Info.plist during the project build for debug and profile mode since by default they will publish the VM Service port over mDNS.
To help diagnose the issue, though, this PR changes it so that we don't inject `NSLocalNetworkUsageDescription` (and other bonjour settings) when port publication is disabled since it shouldn't be needed. Hopefully, this will give us better error messages or cause the app to crash and end the test early (rather than timeout after 30 minutes).
[Android] Update Java/AGP/Gradle warning compatible Java range (#135710)
Specifies that compatible Java range stated in warning when Java version is incompatible with our template AGP & Gradle versions notes an exclusive upper bound Java version. This was a bug from https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/131444, and I will file a CP request to stable once this lands.
The warning uses [`getJavaVersionFor`](b5c8fd11e4/packages/flutter_tools/lib/src/android/gradle_utils.dart (L606)), which returns an exclusive upper bound, which is why this fix is necessary.
[tool] fallback to sigkill when closing Chromium (#135521)
This implements https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/132654#issuecomment-1738221257, namely:
Make `Chromium.close` more robust:
* Send `SIGTERM` and wait up to 5 seconds, if the process exited, great! Return from the function.
* If the process has not exited, then send a `SIGKILL`, which is a much firmer way to exit a process. Same as before, wait up to 5 seconds, if the process exited, great! Return from the function.
* If it still hasn't exited then give up trying to exit Chromium, just print a warning to the console and return from the function.
Bonus: a few nullability fixes and extra `-v` logging.
Add API to read flavor from framework at run time (#134179)
Resolves #128046.
Adds a services API that allows flutter app developers to write app code that determines `--flavor` the app was built with.
This is implemented by having the tool adding the value of `--flavor` to its list of dart environment declarations, which will be available to the app at run time. Specifically,`FLUTTER_APP_FLAVOR` is set. I chose this implementation for its simplicity. There is some precedent for this, but only for web ([example](cd2f3f5e78/packages/flutter_tools/lib/src/runner/flutter_command.dart (L1231))).
Wait for CONFIGURATION_BUILD_DIR to update when debugging with Xcode (#135444)
So there appears to be a race situation between the flutter CLI and Xcode. In the CLI, we update the `CONFIGURATION_BUILD_DIR` in the Xcode build settings and then tell Xcode to install, launch, and debug the app. When Xcode installs the app, it should use the `CONFIGURATION_BUILD_DIR` to find the bundle. However, it appears that sometimes Xcode hasn't processed the change to the build settings before the install happens, which causes it to not be able to find the bundle.
Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/135442
---
Since it's a timing issue, there's not really a consistent way to test it.
I was able to confirm that it works, though, by using the following steps:
1. Create a flutter project
2. Open the project in Xcode
3. `flutter clean`
4. `flutter run --profile -v`
If I saw a print line `stderr: CONFIGURATION_BUILD_DIR: build/Debug-iphoneos`, that means it first found the old and incorrect `CONFIGURATION_BUILD_DIR` before updating to the the new, so I was able to confirm that it would wait until it updated.
Reland "Native assets support for Linux" (#135097)
Reland of #134031. (Reverted in #135069.) Contains the fix for b/301051367 together with cl/567233346.
Support for FFI calls with `@Native external` functions through Native assets on Linux. This enables bundling native code without any build-system boilerplate code.
For more info see:
* https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/129757
### Implementation details for Linux.
Mainly follows the design of https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/130494.
Some differences are:
* Linux does not support cross compiling or compiling for multiple architectures, so this has not been implemented.
* Linux has no add2app.
The assets copying is done in the install-phase of the CMake build of a flutter app.
CMake requires the native assets folder to exist, so we create it also when the feature is disabled or there are no assets.
### Tests
This PR adds new tests to cover the various use cases.
* packages/flutter_tools/test/general.shard/linux/native_assets_test.dart
[Android] Add Java/AGP/Gradle incompatibility warning to flutter create (#131444)
Adds warning to `flutter create` command that checks if detected Java version is compatible with the template AGP and template Gradle versions. If a developer is building for Android and their Java version is incompatible with either the AGP or Gradle versions that Flutter currently supports by default for new Flutter projects, then
- a warning will show noting the incompatibility and
- steps will be shown to fix the issue, the recommended option being to configure a new compatible Java version given that Flutter knows we can support the template Gradle/AGP versions and updating them manually may be risky (feedback on this approach would be greatly appreciated!)
Given that the template AGP and Gradle versions are compatible, this PR assumes that the detected Java version may only conflict with one of the template AGP or Gradle versions because:
 - the minimum Java version for a given AGP version is less than the maximum Java version compatible for the minimum Gradle version required for that AGP version (too low a Java version will fail AGP compatibility test, but not Gradle compatibility).
- the maximum Java version compatible with minimum Gradle version for a given AGP version is higher than minimum Java version required for that AGP version (too high a Java version will fail Gradle compatibility test, but not AGP compatibility test).
Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/130515 in the sense that `flutter create foo`; `cd foo`; `flutter run` should always be successful.
[web] Encode AssetManifest.bin as JSON and use that on the web. (#131382)
This PR modifies the web build slightly to create an `AssetManifest.json`, that is a JSON(base64)-encoded version of the `AssetManifest.bin` file.
_(This should enable all browsers to download the file without any interference, and all servers to serve it with the correct headers.)_
It also modifies Flutter's `AssetManifest` class so it loads and uses said file `if (kIsWeb)`.
### Tests
Remove 'must be non-null' and 'must not be null' comments from non-framework libraries (#134994)
## Description
This removes all of the comments that are of the form "so-and-so must not be null" or "so-and-so must be non-null" from the cases where those values are defines as non-nullable values.
This PR removes them from the library in the repo that don't have anything to do with the framework.
This was done by hand, since it really didn't lend itself to scripting, so it needs to be more than just spot-checked, I think. I was careful to leave any comment that referred to parameters that were nullable, but I may have missed some.
In addition to being no longer relevant after null safety has been made the default, these comments were largely fragile, in that it was easy for them to get out of date, and not be accurate anymore anyhow.
This did create a number of constructor comments which basically say "Creates a [Foo].", but I don't really know how to avoid that in a large scale change, since there's not much you can really say in a lot of cases.  I think we might consider some leniency for constructors to the "Comment must be meaningful" style guidance (which we de facto have already, since there are a bunch of these).
Native assets support for Linux (#134031)
Support for FFI calls with `@Native external` functions through Native assets on Linux. This enables bundling native code without any build-system boilerplate code.
For more info see:
* https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/129757
### Implementation details for Linux.
Mainly follows the design of https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/130494.
Some differences are:
* Linux does not support cross compiling or compiling for multiple architectures, so this has not been implemented.
* Linux has no add2app.
The assets copying is done in the install-phase of the CMake build of a flutter app.
CMake requires the native assets folder to exist, so we create it also when the feature is disabled or there are no assets.
### Tests
This PR adds new tests to cover the various use cases.
* packages/flutter_tools/test/general.shard/linux/native_assets_test.dart
It also extends various existing tests:
* packages/flutter_tools/test/integration.shard/native_assets_test.dart
[flutter_tools] Run ShutdownHooks when handling signals (#134590)
Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/134566.
Prior to this fix, `ShutdownHooks` were run in the private helper
function `_exit()` defined in the `package:flutter_tools/runner.dart`
library. Independent of this, the tool had signal handling logic that
traps SIGINT and SIGTERM. However, these handlers called `exit()` from
`dart:io`, and didn't run these hooks.
This PR moves the `_exit()` private helper to
`package:flutter_tools/src/base/process.dart` and renames it to
`exitWithHooks()`, so that it can be called by the signal handlers in
`package:flutter_tools/src/base/signals.dart`.
Also, added a Xcode Debug version of the `microbenchmarks_ios` integration test since it uses `flutter run --profile` without using `--use-application-binary`.
Native assets support for MacOS and iOS (#130494)
Support for FFI calls with `@Native external` functions through Native assets on MacOS and iOS. This enables bundling native code without any build-system boilerplate code.
For more info see:
* https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/129757
### Implementation details for MacOS and iOS.
Dylibs are bundled by (1) making them fat binaries if multiple architectures are targeted, (2) code signing these, and (3) copying them to the frameworks folder. These steps are done manual rather than via CocoaPods. CocoaPods would have done the same steps, but (a) needs the dylibs to be there before the `xcodebuild` invocation (we could trick it, by having a minimal dylib in the place and replace it during the build process, that works), and (b) can't deal with having no dylibs to be bundled (we'd have to bundle a dummy dylib or include some dummy C code in the build file).
The dylibs are build as a new target inside flutter assemble, as that is the moment we know what build-mode and architecture to target.
The mapping from asset id to dylib-path is passed in to every kernel compilation path. The interesting case is hot-restart where the initial kernel file is compiled by the "inner" flutter assemble, while after hot restart the "outer" flutter run compiled kernel file is pushed to the device. Both kernel files need to contain the mapping. The "inner" flutter assemble gets its mapping from the NativeAssets target which builds the native assets. The "outer" flutter run get its mapping from a dry-run invocation. Since this hot restart can be used for multiple target devices (`flutter run -d all`) it contains the mapping for all known targets.
### Example vs template
The PR includes a new template that uses the new native assets in a package and has an app importing that. Separate discussion in: https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/131209.
### Tests
This PR adds new tests to cover the various use cases.
Retry connecting to device in CI after lost connection (#133769)
Sometimes `ios-deploy` loses connection to the device after installing, starting debugserver, and launching. This is shown with an error message like:
This happens frequently in our CI system: https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/120808
Usually in CI, on retry it'll work and pass - so this is an attempt to retry without failing the test first. It's not guaranteed to fix since we're unable to recreate this error locally.
[Windows] Add target architecture to build path (#131843)
To implement windows-arm64 support, it is needed to add architecture as a subdirectory (https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/129805).
In short, when performing a flutter windows build, we have:
- Before: build/windows/runner/Release/gallery.exe
- After: build/windows/x64/runner/Release/gallery.exe
This convention follows what flutter linux build does.
[flutter_tools] Fix legacy version file not being ensured (#133097)
Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/133093
When I introduced the new, more robust version file `//flutter/bin/cache/version.json` in https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/124558, I changed `class FlutterVersion` into an abstract interface, implemented by `_FlutterVersionFromGit` (which is essentially the previous behavior) and `_FlutterVersionFromFile`, which merely reads the data it would have computed via git from `//flutter/bin/cache/version.json`.
While doing this, I made `_FlutterVersionFromGit.ensureVersionFile()` to be a no-op, since I assumed this would not be necessary since we already had a version file in the cache. However, this method was what was previously responsible for ensuring `//flutter/version` existed on disk. This means that if, for whatever reason, the user had `//flutter/bin/cache/flutter.version.json` present but NOT `//flutter/version`, the tool would have never created that file, and they would hit the tool crash seen in https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/133093.
This fixes the tool by ensuring `//flutter/version` exists regardless of if we're hydrating `FlutterVersion` from `//flutter/bin/cache/flutter.version.json` or not.
Add --experimental-wasm-type-reflection and support newer emscripten builds. (#133084)
This makes two changes to prepare for incoming changes to skwasm in the web engine:
* We will (at least for now) be depending on the `WebAssembly.Function` constructor in `skwasm`, which is hidden behind the `--experimental-wasm-type-reflection` flag. We need to pass that when running skwasm benchmarks.
* We are going to be upgrading the skwasm build to a newer version of emscripten, which exposes the wasm exports via the `wasmExports` property instead of the `asm` property. Make sure to support either, if passed.
Updates app link gradle tasks and remove vm services (#131805)
1. Remove vm service registration
2. combine print<variant>ApplicationId and print<variant>AppLinkDomain into one task dump<variant>AppLinkSettings, which dump all the data in a json file
The deeplink validation tool will be a static app in devtool instead of regular app. A Static app doesn't require a running app; therefore, we can't call these API through vmservices. I decided to convert these API into flutter analyzer command, which will be done in a separate PR https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/131009.
The reason these print tasks are converted into file dumps is to reduce the amount of data encoding and decoding. Instead of passing data through stdout, the devtool can read the files generated by gradle tasks instead.
Fix log filtering and CI tests for iOS 17 physical devices (#132491)
Fixes a couple of issues introduced in new iOS 17 physical device tooling: https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/131865.
1) Duplicate messages were being filtered out too aggressively.
For example, if on the counter app, you printed "Increment!" on button click, it would only print once no matter how many times you clicked.
Sometimes more than one log source is used at a time and the original intention was to filter duplicates between two log sources, so it wouldn't print the same message from both logs. However, it would also filter when the same message was added more than once via the same log.
The new solution distinguishes a "primary" and a "fallback" log source and prefers to use the primary source unless it's not working, in which it'll use the fallback. If the fallback is faster than the primary, the primary will exclude the logs received by the fallback in a 1-to-1 fashion to prevent too-aggressive filtering. Once a flutter-message has been received by the primary source, fallback messages will be ignored.
Note: iOS < 17 did not regress.
2) There was a race condition between the shutdown hooks and exiting XcodeDebug that was causing a crash when deleting a file that doesn't exist. This only affects CI  - for the new integration tests and when testing with iOS 17 physical devices.
Fix flutter attach local engine (#131825)
Fixes: https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/124970
Part of https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/47161
Before this change, there were two places we overrode the `Artifacts` in a Zone:
1. if/when we parse local-engine CLI options: 1cf3907407/packages/flutter_tools/lib/src/runner/flutter_command_runner.dart (L281)
2. an additional override for fuchsia platform dill (no longer used, deleted in this PR): 1cf3907407/packages/flutter_tools/lib/src/commands/attach.dart (L274)
Note 1 above creates a new instance of `Artifacts.getLocalEngine()`. In this flow, there exist two instances of `Artifacts`:
1. The default fallback instance of `CachedArtifacts` (which gets all artifacts from flutter/bin/cache), instantiated in context_runner.dart: 1cf3907407/packages/flutter_tools/lib/src/context_runner.dart (L137)
2. An instance of `CachedLocalEngineArtifacts` created in the command runner once the CLI options have been parsed: 1cf3907407/packages/flutter_tools/lib/src/runner/flutter_command_runner.dart (L281)
The regression happened when we direct injected the Artifacts 1 from above BEFORE we parsed the local-engine flag, and then used this in the second zone override, and then when creating the `FlutterDevice` there are multiple calls to `globals.artifacts` returned it when it should have returned Artifacts 2: 1cf3907407/packages/flutter_tools/lib/src/resident_runner.dart (L80)
Device.artifactOverrides was originally introduced in https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/32071, but is no longer used, so I deleted it.
I also removed direct injection of `Artifacts` to the attach sub-command, because that class now no longer references artifacts.
I believe the ideal true fix for this would be to:
1. Migrate all leaf calls to `globals.artifacts` to use direct injection (in this case, the offending invocations were in [`FlutterDevice.create()`](1cf3907407/packages/flutter_tools/lib/src/resident_runner.dart (L80-L218)), but I'm not sure that something else would not have broken later)
2. Ensure we are always direct injecting the desired instance of `Artifacts`--that is, if the user desires local engine artifacts, that we are passing an instance of `CachedLocalEngineArtifacts`.
  a. Alternatively, and probably simpler, teach `CachedArtifacts` to know about the local engine. This would mean parsing the global CLI options BEFORE we ever construct any instance of `Artifacts`.
As an overall recommendation for implementing https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/47161, in the overall tree of tool function calls, we should probably migrate the leaves first (that is, migrate the sub-commands last). We should also audit and reconsider any usage of `runZoned()` or `context.run()` for the purpose overriding zoneValues.
Allows adding a storage 'realm' to the storage base URL (#131951)
Context: https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/131862
This PR injects a "realm" component to the storage base URL when the contents of the file `bin/internal/engine.realm` is non-empty.
As documented in the PR, when the realm is `flutter_archives_v2`, and `bin/internal/engine.version` contains the commit hash for a commit in a `flutter/engine` PR, then the artifacts pulled by the tool will be the artifacts built by the presubmit checks for the PR.
This works for everything but the following two cases:
1. Fuchsia artifacts are not uploaded to CIPD by the Fuchsia presubmit builds.
2. Web artifacts are not uploaded to gstatic by the web engine presubmit builds.
For (1), the flutter/flutter presubmit `fuchsia_precache` is driven by a shell script outside of the repo. It will fail when the `engine.version` and `engine.realm` don't point to a post-submit engine commit.
For (2), the flutter/flutter web presubmit tests that refer to artifacts in gstatic hang when the artifacts aren't found, so this PR skips them.
New tooling for iOS 17 physical devices (#131865)
This PR includes the following changes. These changes only apply to iOS 17 physical devices.
| Command | Change Description  | Changes to User Experience |
| ------------- | ------------- | ------------- |
| `flutter run --release` | Uses `devicectl` to install and launch application in release mode.  | No change.  |
| `flutter run`  | Uses Xcode via automation scripting to run application in debug and profile mode. | Xcode will be opened in the background. Errors/crashes may be caught in Xcode and therefore may not show in terminal. |
| `flutter run --use-application-binary=xxxx` | Creates temporary empty Xcode project and use Xcode to run via automation scripting in debug and profile. | Xcode will be opened in the background. Errors/crashes may be caught in Xcode and therefore may not show in terminal.  |
| `flutter install` | Uses `devicectl` to check installed apps, install app, uninstall app.  | No change.  |
| `flutter screenshot` | Will return error.  | Will return error.  |
Other changes include:
* Using `devicectl` to get information about the device
* Using `idevicesyslog` and Dart VM logging for device logs
Note:
Xcode automation scripting (used in `flutter run` for debug and profile) does not work in a headless (without a UI) interface. No known workaround.
Check for simulator runtime in flutter doctor (#131795)
Redo of https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/130728 - code is the same as before. That PR was stuck in Google testing and then I messed up the rebase so started over.
----
Starting in Xcode 15, the simulator is no longer included in Xcode and must be downloaded and installed separately. This adds a validation to `flutter doctor` to warn when the needed simulator runtime is missing.
Validation message looks like:
```
[!] Xcode - develop for iOS and macOS (Xcode 15.0)
    ! iOS 17.0 Simulator not installed; this may be necessary for iOS and macOS development.
      To download and install the platform, open Xcode, select Xcode > Settings > Platforms,
      and click the GET button for the required platform.

      For more information, please visit:
        https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode/installing-additional-simulator-runtimes
```
It may also show an error like this when something goes wrong when checking for the simulator:
```
[!] Xcode - develop for iOS and macOS (Xcode 15.0)
    ✗ Unable to find the iPhone Simulator SDK.
```
Note: I'm unsure of in the future if the SDK and the simulator runtime will need to match the exact version or just the major. For now, it only checks against the major version.
[flutter_tools/dap] Improve rendering of structured errors via DAP (#131251)
In the legacy VS Code DAP, we would deserialise the Flutter.Error event
and provide some basic colouring (eg. stack frames are faded if not from
user code and the text is split between stdout/stderr to allow the
client to colour it).
In the new DAPs we originally used `renderedErrorText` which didn't
support either of these. This change adds changes to use the structured
data (with some basic parsing because the source classes are in
package:flutter and not accessible here) to provide a similar
experience.
It would be nicer if we could use the real underlying Flutter classes
for this deserialisation, but extracting them from `package:flutter` and
removing all dependencies on Flutter is a much larger job and I don't
think should hold up providing improved error formatting for the new
DAPs.
Relax syntax for gen-l10n (#130736)
To preserve backward compatibility with the old parser which would
ignore syntax errors, this PR introduces a way to treat the special
characters `{` and `}` in the following way:
1. If we encounter a `{` which searching for a string token and this `{`
is not followed by a valid placeholder, then we treat the `{` as a
string and continue lexing for strings.
2. If we encounter a `}` while not within some expression (i.e.
placeholders, arguments, plurals, or selects), then we treat the `}` as
a string and continue lexing for strings.
This makes it so that
```
"helloWorld": "{ } { placeholder }",
"@@helloWorld": {
  "placeholders": {
    "placeholder" {}
  }
}
```
treats the `{ }` as a string while `{ placeholder } ` is treated as a
placeholder.
[flutter_tools] Support coverage collection for dependencies (#129513)
PR provides a new option to the `test` command to include coverage info of specified packages.
It helps collecting coverage info in test setups where test code lives in separate packages or for multi-package projects.
At present, only current package is included to the final report.
Usage:
Consider an app with two packages: `app`, `common`.
Some of the tests in `app` use (indirectly) code that is located in `common`. When running with `--coverage` flag, that code is not included in the coverage report by default. To include `common` package in report, we can run:
```sh
flutter test --coverage --coverage-package app --coverage-package common
```
Note that `--coverage-package` accepts regular expression.
Add an android migrator to upgrade minSdkVersions 16,17,18 to flutter.minSdkVersion (#129729)
This migrator will upgrade the minSdkVersion used in the [module-level build.gradle](https://developer.android.com/build#module-level) file to flutter.minSdkVersion.
The PR also makes a small refactor to `AndroidProject` to add a getter for the module level build.gradle file, and uses that getter in places where we were getting that file (previously it was being gotten directly via `hostAppGradleRoot.childDirectory('app').childFile('build.gradle')`.
Part of the work for deprecating support for the Jelly Bean android apis.
You can find general documentation for Flutter at: https://docs.flutter.dev/
Detailed API documentation is available at: https://api.flutter.dev/
If you prefer video documentation, consider: https://www.youtube.com/c/flutterdev
In order to run your application, type:
  $ cd test1
  $ flutter run
Your application code is in test1/lib/main.dart.
```

---

It's worth noting that this _always_ escapes a non-empty project description, which means that descriptions that were not previously wrapped in `"`s' will be. I'm not sure how worth it is to do a _conditional_ escape (i.e. only escape if not escaping would cause a problem), but willing to change.

Side-note: I had no idea where to list this test in the (very large) `create_test.dart`, so I did my best :)

Print pretty error when xcodebuild fails due to missing simulator (#130286)
Starting in Xcode 15, the simulator is no longer included in Xcode and must be downloaded and installed separately.

If you try to run flutter and the simulator is missing, you'll get an error like
```
xcodebuild: error: Unable to find a destination matching the provided destination specifier:
               		{ id:B1234A5C-67B8-901D-B2CB-FE34F56BDE78 }
               	Ineligible destinations for the "Runner" scheme:
               		{ platform:iOS, id:dvtdevice-DVTiPhonePlaceholder-iphoneos:placeholder, name:Any iOS Device, error:iOS 17.0 is not installed. To use with Xcode, first download and install the platform }
```

Print a pretty error to make it easier for developers to know what to do.
