This adds flutter create --sample which allows users to execute a command which will create a working sample app from samples embedded in the API docs.
The command looks something like this:

Subcommand output (gradle, adb, etc) is no longer wrapped, and wrapping notices when the terminal column width changes dynamically now.

This attempts to re-land #22656.
There are two changes from the original:
I turned off wrapping completely when not sending output to a terminal. Previously I had defaulted to wrapping at and arbitrary 100 chars in that case, just to keep long messages from being too long, but that turns out the be a bad idea because there are tests that are relying on the specific form of the output. It's also pretty arbitrary, and mostly people sending output to a non-terminal will want unwrapped text.
I found a better way to terminate ANSI color/bold sequences, so that they can be embedded within each other without needed quite as complex a dance with removing redundant sequences.
As part of these changes, I removed the Logger.supportsColor setter so that the one source of truth for color support is in AnsiTerminal.supportsColor.

We decided that redefining the default for templates was premature. We're going to go back to having "module" in experimental land again, and we'll try again when we have the feature set fully baked.

This all happened because I was trying to be a little too helpful...
Part of the job of the "create" command is to recreate missing pieces of existing projects, and now that the default has changed, I wanted to make it so that if someone had created a default flutter create project before, that they could run a default flutter create there again, and not have it trashed by using the new default template (application) over the old one (app).
This meant I had to detect what type of project it was. Unfortunately, in the past we didn't write anything in the .metadata file to identify the type of project, and since the goal was regenerating missing files, I can't count on anything existing, so it's just a heuristic match.
This simplifies the heuristics down to just detecting the difference between "app" and "application" projects, and only detect the other types if they're explicitly listed in the .metadata file (I changed the code in my original PR to add the project type to the .metadata file). People used to have to specify the type for those anyhow, so it shouldn't be a surprise to users.
So, the main difference in the new heuristics from my last attempt is that if you have a directory that has some other stuff it (like maybe a "plugin" project), then we'll recreate (pronounced "mess up") the project using the "application" template, but that was true before (except it would use the "app" template).

This renames the "module" template to the "application" template, and makes "application" the default. The existing "app" template is now deprecated.
flutter create also now recognizes the type of project in an existing directory, and is able to recreate it without having the template type explicitly specified (although you can still do that). It does this now by first looking in the .metadata file for the new project_type field, and if it doesn't find that, then it looks at the directory structure. Also, the .metadata file is now overwritten even on an existing directory so that 1) the project_type can be added to legacy projects, and 2) the version of Flutter that updated the project last is updated.
I also cleaned up a bunch of things in create_test.dart, added many more tests, and added an example test to the test/ directory in the generated output of the application template.

Eliminates the --snapshot and --depfile parameters from the flutter
bundle command. The snapshot parameter is unused in Dart 2 -- code is
built to kernel .dill files and for profile/release builds, then AOT
compiled.
While depfiles are still used in Dart 2 (e.g. by the kernel compiler),
there are enough assumptions in the code that they lie in the default
location (e.g. in the Gradle build) and no reasons to support
user-cusomisation that it makes sense to eliminate the --depfile option
as well, and always use the default location.
This commit also renames 'depFilePath' to 'depfilePath' for consistency
across the codebase.
This also involves switching from Core JIT to App JIT snapshot, and replacing per-isolate VM snapshot with the shared VM snapshot.
For now there is no separate update bundle file, as the generated update gets packaged directly into the APK for testing purposes.

Swap out the moon emoji used for progress spinner for a single-cell character.
The moon emoji looked cool, but couldn't be used because of bugs in xterm.js, used for VSCode's terminal, among others. The moon emoji is two character cells wide, but xterm.js doesn't advance by two cells when it adds the emoji, but does go back by two when it backspaces.
This changes us to a different character animation (dots) that is only one cell wide, and so doesn't have this problem.

The phrase "note that" is basically meaningless as a prefix to an
otherwise fine sentence.
This changes the compiler output for gradle to be less verbose and more easily read.
This only applies to compilation error messages: other gradle messages will continue to print as before.
It also fixes a small problem with the performance measurement printing (see that "7.1s" on it's own line in the original?) so that if something is expected to have multiple lines of output, it prints an initial line, and a "Done" line with the elapsed time, so that it's possible to know what the time applies to.
It also updates the spinner to be fancier, at least on platforms other than Windows (which is missing a lot of symbols in its console font).

This adds support to AnsiTerminal for colored output, and makes all tool output written to stderr (with the printError function) colored red.
No color codes are sent if the terminal doesn't support color (or isn't a terminal).
Also makes "progress" output print the elapsed time when not connected to a terminal, so that redirected output and terminal output match (redirected output doesn't print the spinner, however).

Flutter.framework into the build application Frameworks directory:
1. The Embed Frameworks build phase for the Runner project
2. The [CP] Embed Pods Frameworks build phase that pod install creates
in the project.
Item (1) is there to ensure the framework is copied into the built app
in the case where there are no plugins (and therefore no CocoaPods
integration in the Xcode project). Item (2) is there because Flutter's
podspec declares Flutter.framework as a vended_framework, and CocoaPods
automatically adds a copy step for each such vended_framework in the
transitive closure of CocoaPods dependencies.
As an immediate fix, we opt back into the build system used by Xcode 9
and earlier. Longer term, we need to update our templates and
flutter_tools to correctly handle this situation.

This tickled a bug in KernelCompiler.compile() where the fingerprinter
doesn't include the outputFilePath in its list of dependencies. As such,
if the output .dill file is missing or corrupted, the fingerprint still
matches and re-compile is skipped, even though it shouldn't be. I'll fix
that in a followup, then look at how this triggered that issue. My
hypothesis is that that it's due to the aot kernel compile and bundle
kernel compile have separate output directories for the .dill files
(build/ vs build/aot) but the same output directory for the associated
depfiles (due to this patch).

The --snapshot argument was only necessary in Dart 1. The --depfile
argument was only used in Dart 2 mode to pass to the kernel compiler,
but was inconsistent with the 'build aot' command, where the depfile was
always set to build/kernel_compile.d.
This patch updates 'build bundle' to emit the depfile to a location
consistent with the 'build aot' command; since it's not intended to be
user-configurable and flutter.gradle hardcodes the location to
build/kernel_compile.d either way, this patch also eliminates the
ability to configure the filename altogether.
I'm working on fixing up all tests that rely on fs.currentDirectory to allow us to run concurrently. This one proved to be really tricky because it calls a lot of code and spawns multiple processes that have a mix of absolute and relative paths passed to them. I managed to handle some of it with a ChrootFileSystem, but the paths passed to the external processes were wrong.
The functionality here is covered by all of the integration tests that use flutter_tester that were added after this, including flutter_run_test.dart, lifetime_test.dart etc. in this same folder but because they're run through `flutter run` as a separate process they get to set their own working directories without affecting other tests if run concurrently.

DevFS.update only runs in Dart 2 mode when the generator parameter is
supplied. In Dart 2 mode, both mainPath and pathToReload are required
parameters; this patch marks them as such.
generator is required for running in Dart 2. All call sites other than tests already explicitly set this value.
Note the statements on line 510 and line 516 for why mainPath and pathToReload are required.
When switching between channels, we were leaving around the version freshness stamp file (bin/cache/flutter_version_check.stamp), which meant that the flutter tool would read from that file to see what the cached date of the most recent commit to the current channel (branch) was. The problem was that since the file was created while on the previous channel, the cached date was for the wrong channel, so if you switch from master to beta, flutter would think that the channel was out of date, and a new version was available, at least for three days after the first time it checked (after three days since the last time the freshness was checked, the cached date would get updated).
This PR modifies the channel command to remove that stamp file whenever the user switches channels, so that the cached date will be from the right channel when it is recreated.

This is a bit of a stab in the dark for a flake sometimes seen on bots (but I can't repro locally) #20822. Detaching from a Flutter app currently seems to terminate it, so it may be the cause of the "app not found" when trying to stop the app subsequently.
This change means we stop the app from the main process first, before terminating the attach process.
* Don't time out if process terminates when told to stop but response was not processed
While trying to reproduce #20822 I found a condition where the app may quit before the `app.stop` response is received but this code (which is called in integration test teardown) would sit around waiting and time out. With this change, the process exit is considered a valid response to the stop request.

This log can be turned on for debugging but is also dumped when a test fails (in certain conditions). With this in the log, it'll be clear if the timeout is because we're waiting for an event but the process quit.
This test is sometimes flaky (#20822) because the two processes try to stop the same app. This fix changes to just gracefully terminate the attach process without explicitly trying to stop and then uses the original spawning process to stop the app.
I can't repro the flake locally to be certain, but I've verified only one stop command is sent now so it *should* be good.

All temporary directory start with `flutter_` and have their random component separated from the name by a period, as in `flutter_test_bundle.YFYQMY`.
I've tried to find some of the places where we didn't cleanly delete temporary directories, too. This greatly reduces, though it does not entirely eliminate, the directories we leave behind when running tests, especially `flutter_tools` tests.
While I was at it I standardized on `tempDir` as the variable name for temporary directories, since it was the most common, removing occurrences of `temp` and `tmp`, among others.
Also I factored out some common code that used to catch exceptions that happen on Windows, and made more places use that pattern.

ios-deploy relies on LLDB.framework, which relies on /usr/bin/python and
the 'six' module that's installed on the system. However, it appears to
use the first version of Python on PATH, rather than explicitly
specifying the system install. If a user has a custom install of Python
(e.g., via Homebrew or MacPorts) ahead of the system Python on their
PATH, LLDB.framework will pick up that version instead. If the user
hasn't installed the 'six' module, ios-deploy will fail with a
relatively cryptic error message.
This patch pushes /usr/bin to the front of PATH for the duration of the
ios-deploy run to avoid this scenario.
This patch also removes checks for package six.
Neither Flutter nor any of its direct dependencies/tooling relies on
package six. ios-deploy depends on LLDB.framework (included with Xcode),
which relies on a Python script that imports this package but uses
whichever Python is at the front of the path. Flutter now invokes
ios-deploy with a PATH with /usr/bin forced to the front in order to
avoid this problem.
We could have retained the check out of paranoia, but this seems
unnecessary since it's entirely possible LLDB.framework may one day drop
this dependency, in which case I'd expect the base system install of
Python would likely drop it as well.

This change emables pinging the server to check for updates regardless of whether the local version is "out of date". The server code already has a 7-day cache so the result is that we can now ping the server once every 7 days instead of waiting for the local install to be 4 weeks out of date before pinging.
The original 4 week period is still used for when we'll start warning the user they're out of date if we could not confirm with the server whether there's a new version.

Previously we would hit the server on every command if we thought we might be out of date and we never successfully connected (eg. if you're offline). This test is failing on mac_bot (but passing elsewhere) because flutter-tester is apparently quitting earlier than expected. Locally it fails with an even weirder error and almost all tests are failing with "Compilation failed" (this isn't happening on the builds, so something is bad on my MacBook). Marking as skip to fix build while investigating; there's no real impact of this test not running; it's testing a tool that its itself used for testing (and not currently in any way that should be affected by this failure).
fuchsia_tester.dart still assumes Dart 1. Previously, it ran tests directly
from source, flutter_platform.dart automatically runs a kernel compile when
operating in Dart 2 mode, but this assumes a functional Dart SDK is available
in the artifacts directly, and fuchsia_tester.dart mocks out the artifacts
directory with an empty temp dir.
Remaining work is:
1. Get the frontend server building as a dependency on Fuchsia.
2. Patch fuchsia_tester.dart to use a valid Dart SDK and frontend server.
This also reverts migration to Dart 2 typedef syntax.

No logic changes, just changing the typedef syntax for all typedefs, and updating analysis options.

Now that we have thousands of tests, it doesn't make sense to display a separate line for each test. The result is just megabytes of logs that you have to scrub through to find error messages.
Uses the `version` property from the `pubspec.yaml` file to set the corresponding fields in the `local.properties` file respectively in the `Generated.xcconfig` file.
The `--build-name` and `--build-number` options have changed. Now they trump the `version` property from the `pubspec.yaml` file.
If the `version` property is not set and the `--build-name` and `--build-number` options are not provided, the build command will not change the `local.properties` / `Generated.xcconfig` file.
* Send an event at startup with the protocol version and pid
The pid will help with some of the issues of terminate the process when launched through a shell script and the version will allow clients to make decisions about supported features.
I've also bumped the protocol version number for two reasons:

2. We didn't increase it when we added the previous emulator commands
When running with --local-engine, build single-architecture apps, rather
than what's declared in the Xcode project.
By default, Flutter creates Xcode projects that generate universal
binaries supporting both armv7 and arm64 processors. Since local engine builds
are all single-architecture, override the Xcode project's ARCHS setting
with the appropriate value for the specific engine.
NOTE: this assumes engine paths consistent with those used in the engine
repo: 32-bit iOS engine builds end in _arm, 64-bit builds do not.
Previously, Flutter did not support iOS devices with armv7 or armv7s
CPUs. We now support these devices. This eliminates the previous
hardcoded checks that prevented running on simulators of older devices.
We maintain the existing restriction on running on watchOS or tvOS
simulators.
Previously, in non-release (i.e. profile) AOT builds, we were setting
--no-checked and --conditional_directives flags. --no-checked is the
default, and we don't make use of conditional directives in Flutter.
Allows users of Fingerprinter to filter the set of paths collected from
the explicitly-specified paths and those collected from depfiles.
In some cases, depfiles are emitted with files that are not present on
the local disk (e.g. the frontend compiler currently emits buildbot
paths for the dart core libraries and dart:ui). These files will not
materially affect whether we need to re-run a build action for which
they are inputs, since they're not present in the filesystem and
therefore cannot change.
This replaces the --prefer-shared-library flag, which falls back to
regular (non-shared-lib) compile if the NDK is not found, with the
--build-shared-library flag, which exits with an error message if the
NDK is not found.
This simplifies the set of allowed code paths through AOT compile,
resulting in better testability and easier-to-follow logic. It also
results in more predictable behaviour for continuous integration and
other scenarios.
This change adds support for armv7, arm64, and universal iOS apps.
This change eliminates iOS target architecture hardcoding (previously
arm64 only) and uses the target architecture(s) specified in Xcode's
ARCHS setting ('Architectures' in Xcode Build Settings).
For universal binaries, set ARCHS to its default value, $(ARCHS_STANDARD).
Note that after changing the architecture in Xcode, developers should
run 'pod install' from the ios subdirectory of their project. A separate
change (that will land before this one) will add support for
automatically detecting project file and Podfile changes and re-running
pod install if necessary.
This change also adds an --ios-arch option to flutter build aot. In iOS
AOT builds (in profile and release mode), this dictates which
architectures are built into App.framework. This flag should generally
be unnecessary to set manually since flutter build aot is typically only
invoked internally by flutter itself.
If the developer changes their Xcode build settings and their project
has plugins, pod install is required, (e.g. to pick up changes to the
target architecture).
Similarly, manual edits to the Podfile should trigger a pod install.
Adds a Fingerprinter utility class that can be used to compute unique
fingerprints for a set of input paths and build options, compare to the
output of a previous run, and skip the build action if no inputs or
options have changed. The existing Fingerprint class still does all the
heavy lifting. Fingerprinter adds common operations such as
reading/writing/comparing fingerprints and parsing depfiles.
This migrates existing uses of Fingerprint over to Fingerprinter.
This also adds better fingerprinting to AOT snapshotting, which
previously failed to include several options in its fingerprint
(--preview-dart-2, --prefer-shared-library).
Previously, we were incorrectly passing --vm_snapshot_data and
--isolate_snapshot_data options to gen_snapshot in assembly AOT builds.
These only make sense in AOT blob snapshot mode (alongside
--vm_snapshot_instructions and --isolate_snapshot_instructions).
There's very little code-sharing between the two, and what little there
is is concentrated in the GenSnapshotClass and the fingerprint
reading/writing utility methods.
iOS debug builds always run in interpreted mode whether on device or on
simulator. In both cases, we can skip snapshotting and link against an
empty App.framework. Previously, we did this for iOS simulator builds.
This does the same for device builds.
Previously, debug iOS builds used gen_snapshot to generate a core
snapshot, then used 'xxd' to generate C files containing the snapshot
data in buffers named kDartVmSnapshotData and kDartIsolateSnapshotData,
which are then compiled/linked into App.framework. This is unnecessary
since the VM compiled into Flutter.framework already contains this data.
Bugfix: Moves AOT snapshot input verification past where the last input
is added to the inputs list.

Moves the kernel compile step to the beginning of the AOT build in a
separate method. This is pre-factoring for iOS universal builds where
the kernel build happens once, but we then snapshot twice: once for
armv7 and once for arm64.
This also writes dependencies to build/kernel_compile.d rather than
build/aot/snapshot.d, since that is immediately overwritten by
gen_snapshot.
This is required for iOS debug builds, but unused otherwise. In theory,
Android debug builds could be run in this mode, but this is historically
untested and adds unnecessary complexity to the code. If ad-hoc testing
is required, it can be patched in when necessary.
This re-lands 8c4f0c0d21 with a fix to
xcode_backend.sh to eliminate the use of --interpreter.
This is required for iOS debug builds, but unused otherwise. In theory,
Android debug builds could be run in this mode, but this is historically
untested and adds unnecessary complexity to the code. If ad-hoc testing
is required, it can be patched in when necessary.
This simplifies tests by allowing the test author to express the outputs
they'd like the snapshotter to generate without creating a whole new
instance and context with the additional overrides.
Also sets the default set of outputs to none, setting them instead in
the setUp function for script snapshotting.
Wraps the compile function in a class injected via the global context,
which makes it easier to mock in unit tests -- specifically tests for
AOT snapshotting, which already require pretty significant amounts of
mock inputs.
This moves --vm_snapshot_data and --isolate_snapshot_data argument
hardcoding from GenSnapshot (a minimal wrapper around gen_snapshot
invocations) to Snapshotter.buildScriptSnapshot(). These arguments are
present in both AOT and script snapshots, but differ semantically: for
script snapshots they're inputs from the host engine artifacts
directory, for AOT snapshots they're outputs to the build directory.

In getFlutterRoot(), scripts loaded via data: URIs are URI encoded.
getFlutterRoot() scans the contents of the data for the file:// URI path
of the Flutter SDK, which itself is URI-encoded. The end result is that
if the SDK path contains a space, the embedded file:// URI will contain
a %20. When this is encoded in a data: URI, the contents are
URI-encoded, resulting in %2520, since the % is encoded to %25.
This patch decodes the data: URI before extracting the SDK file:// URI.
The Flutter engine now supports package: and file: imports that resolve
to paths on disk that include spaces and other URI-escaped characters.
This patch eliminates the restriction that Dart source paths not include
%20 (or other URI-escaped characters) in their paths in flutter_tool
tests.

AndroidSdk and AndroidStudio depends relatively heavily on filesystem
access to locate installed tools. Testing code that relies on either of
these classes benefits from a utility method to generate a
legitimate-looking Android SDK directory layout for testing.
Moves MockProcess, MockStdio and a few other useful mocks from
packages_test.dart to common/mocks.dart. These are useful for testing
code with interactive IO.
This adds a new constructor to MockProcess to provide additional flexibility.
Convenience getters for the the path to the Android SDK manager and the
currently installed version of the tool.
Pre-factoring to support better checks around the --android-licenses
command, which uses a feature of the SDK manager that is unsupported in
older versions of the tool.
Apple encodes syslog entries using a 7-bit encoding where input UTF-8 bytes
are encoded as follows:
1. 0x00 to 0x19: non-printing range. Some ignored, some encoded as <...>.
2. 0x20 to 0x7f: as-is, with the exception of 0x5c (backslash).
3. 0x5c (backslash): octal representation \134.
4. 0x80 to 0x9f: \M^x (using control-character notation for range 0x00 to 0x40).
5. 0xa0: octal representation \240.
6. 0xa1 to 0xf7: \M-x (where x is the input byte stripped of its high-order bit).
7. 0xf8 to 0xff: unused in 4-byte UTF-8.
As there doesn't appear to be a system tool to decode these strings, we
implement here in Dart. If we're unable to decode a string (e.g.
decoding results in an invalid UTF-8 string), we fall back to emitting
the log line as-is.

We now require Xcode 9.0, which ships with the iOS 11 SDK, for iOS
builds. This change does not affect the minimum supported iOS deployment
target, which remains iOS 8.
The iOS 11 SDK adds support for safe area insets, which model the status

the iPhone X sensor housing when in landscape mode.
This re-lands flutter/flutter#13608 now that the devicelab Macs have
been updated to Xcode 9.
We now require Xcode 9.0, which ships with the iOS 11 SDK, for iOS
builds. This change does not affect the minimum supported iOS deployment
target, which remains iOS 8.

We thought it would be OK to call the create command offline-only, but it turns out that isn't a great idea because not all of the create template dependencies are cached by running flutter_tool.
This PR makes it go online by default when running pub get after creating a project, and adds an "--offline" flag to the create command so that offline users can use it offline if their cache is warm.
In order to allow offline usage of the create command we need to be able to tell pub not to try and contact the server to see if new versions are available. Since all the versions that create could want are pinned, it shouldn't need to check for new versions.
Adds a class `PubContext` with a fixed set of allowed values
Make it clear these values should not be changed casually

The purpose of this PR is to make it so that when the user runs 'flutter', if they have a .pub-cache directory in their flutter root, we use that instead of the default location for the pub cache. Otherwise, it should act as before.
The eventual goal is to support a pre-populated flutter .zip/.tar.gz file that has everything the developer needs in one bundle. In order for that to actually work, we need to have the pub cache be self-contained, and not in the user's home dir.
Another advantage of this is that if you have multiple flutter repos that you're switching between, then the versions in the pub cache will remain static when you switch between them.
This is an attempt to re-land: #13248. Includes a fix for the test that makes it work on bots in the presence of PUB_CACHE being set, and no other changes.

It turns out that when a PR build clones the flutter repo, it puts it into a directory called "flutter", and when the "real" build clones the flutter repo, it puts it into a directory called "build". This allowed the tests to succeed in my PR, but fail when I committed it.
This fixes the test so it doesn't depend on the cloned directory name.

Add support for IOS_SIMULATOR_HOME environment variable in IOSSimulator.logFilePath
flutter_tools can be run on environments where the user's HOME directory
is not the root of the iOS simulators' configs. This change adds support
for such environments by allowing the caller to set the simulator root
directory via an environment variable.
This consolidates all of the non-template .gitignore rules into the top level .gitignore, to ignore common things more broadly, with less maintenance needed for the .gitignore files. Does not touch the templates, so that they still produce needed .gitignores as part of flutter create.
* Add support for NDK discovery and add --prefer-shared-library option
We would like to be able to use native tools (e.g. simpleperf, gdb) with
precompiled flutter apps. The native tools work much better with *.so
files instead of the custom formats the Dart VM uses by default.
The reason for using blobs / instruction snapshots is that we do not
want to force flutter users to install the Android NDK.
This CL adds a `--prefer-shared-library` flag to e.g. `flutter build
apk` which will use the NDK compiler (if available) to turn the
precompiled app assembly file to an `*.so` file. If the NDK compiler is
not available it will default to the default behavior.

Previously, we were mapping certain named platforms
(e.g. `android-stable`) to their corresponding version.
this had two problems:
1. The version could become out of date. For instance, we had
mapped `android-stable` to version 24, but the stable version
is now 27.
2. The list of possible named versions wasn't comprehensive.
Some Android SDKs just list the platform as `stable`, or
`experimental`, etc.
This change updates the platform version detection to use
the `build.prop` file that exists in the platform directory
(only for cases where the version number is not encoded into
the directory name).
Creates a new (hidden) flutter command 'ide-config' that will create and/or update
existing .iml files and some files under the .idea directory, as well as
removing existing *.iml files and the .idea directory.
It also:
* Adds *.iml to the .gitignore
* Removes existing .iml files from the repo, and moves them to the
packages/flutter_tools/ide_templates/intellij directory.
* Adds a flag to ide-config ('--update-templates') that will take any new .iml
files in the flutter tree and add them to the existing templates.
- If --overwrite is also specified, then all existing templates will also
be overwritten with the contents from the flutter tree, and any that have
been deleted from the flutter tree will also be removed from the
templates.
* Added new run configurations for all existing app targets that will now also
be automatically added to IntelliJ.
* Setting up the environment also includes setting the coding style guidelines
and the git VCS.
* Note that after this PR lands, Flutter developers will need to run it once to
re-create the .iml files and configuration files that have been removed.
After this PR lands, .iml files will no longer appear in the untracked files
section for git.

No code was actually changed in this PR - code was merely moved from

This class lives in the Context and allows callers to "inject"
flag values, where flag values are first extracted from the
command arguments, then from the global arguments as a fallback.
This makes command validation happen as part of `verifyThenRunCommand()`,
using a newly introduced protected method (`validateCommand()`) rather than
a `commandValidator` property (that subclasses were responsible for manually
invoking).

1. Migrate simulator device log tailing to os_log toolchain
2. When the log tag (component) is available (iOS 11/Xcode 9), filter to
the set of log lines with tag 'Flutter'.
As of iOS 11 / Xcode 9, Flutter engine logs are no longer recorded in the
simulator's syslog file, which we previously read using tail -f. Instead
they're now accessible through Apple's new macOS/iOS os_log facility,
via /usr/bin/log, which supports a relatively flexible query language.
When run in non-interactive mode, /usr/bin/log buffers its output in 4k
chunks, which is significantly smaller than what's emitted up to the
point where the observatory/diagnostics port information is logged. As a
workaround we force it to run in interactive mode via the script tool.
This was introduced to suppress libMobileGestalt noise originating from
libsystem_asl.dylib. Commit 39680ebfbd
suppresses all application log messages not originating from the
app/engine iteself on iOS 10 and above. Since the log message in
question is only emitted on devices running iOS >= 10.3.0, this
blacklist no longer necessary.
On iOS 10 and above, suppress engine log messages from system components
other than Flutter. This eliminates a large amount of keyboard/plugin
related noise during edit-refresh development.
ios-deploy 1.9.2 includes fixes for a common source of Xcode breakage
(flutter/flutter#4326) with Xcode 8.3.3 + iOS 10.3.3, and is required to
to support Xcode 9 (flutter/flutter#11875).
Adds the app entrypoint as a key in the checksum file.
This change eliminates the assumption that checksummed files change when
the main entrypoint changes. In the case where there are two
entrypoints, a.dart and b.dart and a.dart imports b.dart and b.dart
imports a.dart, building the app with entrypoint a.dart followed by a
build of the app with entrypoint b.dart would result in the same
files list and checksums, but should invalidate the build.
Fix a test for build invalidation due to a change in main entry point.
Previously this test's build was always invalidated to the the lack of a
previous snapshot (as well as the change in checksums). This change
ensures that the build is invalidated only due to the change in
checksums.
This patch migrates iOS device listing from using Xcode instruments to
using the libimobiledevice tools idevice_id and ideviceinfo.
ideviceinfo was previously incompatible with iOS 11 physical devices;
this has now been fixed.
In 37bb5f1300 flutter_tools migrated from
libimobiledevice-based device listing on iOS to using Xcode instruments
to work around the lack of support for iOS 11. Using instruments entails
several downsides, including a significantly higher performance hit, and
leaking hung DTServiceHub processes in certain cases when a simulator is
running, necessitating workarounds in which we watched for, and cleaned
up leaked DTServiceHub processes. This patch returns reverts the move to
instruments now that it's no longer necessary.
Extract a Snapshotter class that can be shared between FLX snapshotting,
AOT snapshotting, and assembly AOT snapshotting. Allows for better
testability of snapshotting logic.
* Extracts script snapshotting used in FLX build.
* Adds tests for snapshot checksumming, build invalidation/skipping.
Remaining work: disentangle + extract AOT snapshotting and Assembly AOT
snapshotting logic from build_aot.dart.
This change re-introduces skipping AOT snapshot builds if input sources
and outputs have not changed since the last snapshot build, assuming a
build for the same platform in the same build mode.

It includes the following changes relative to the original:
1. Include the entrypoint source in the checksums
2. include the build mode in the checksums
3. include the target platform in the checksums
This change ensures that snapshot build checksums used to avoid
duplicate builds are invalidated by a change to framework revision
(in case gen_snapshot is updated), as well as by build mode.
Currently, only FLX snapshotting uses checksums to avoid duplicate
builds. FLX snapshotting is always done with BuildMode.debug, so didn't
include build mode in the checksum file.
This patch supports basic filtering of log lines from physical iOS
devices, similar to existing functionality for iOS simulator logging.
This patch also suppresses the following two log messages which are
emitted at app startup on iOS 10.3 devices:

Allows the user to specify the kind of project to create. The default is 'app'. Other choices are 'plugin' (the old '--plugin' behavior), and 'package'.

This change re-introduces skipping snapshot builds if input sources (and
outputs) have not changed since the last snapshot build, with a bugfix
to include the entry-point source in the checksum used to check whether
rebuild can be skipped. This ensures that the following sequence
invalidates the cached build, resulting in two snapshot builds:

flutter build ios lib/bar.dart

Mainly, this adds documentation to members that were previously
lacking documentation.
It also adds a big block of documentation about improving performance
of widgets.
This also removes some references to package:collection and adds
global setEquals and listEquals methods in foundation that we can use.
(setEquals in particular should be much faster than the
package:collection equivalent, though both should be faster as they
avoid allocating new objects.) All remaining references now qualify
the import so we know what our remaining dependencies are.
Also lots of code reordering in Flutter driver to make the code
consistent and apply the style guide more thoroughly.

Turns out that with this patch, we aren't actually catching all
errors. For example, `flutter analyze --flutter-repo --watch` didn't
report errors in `dev/devicelab/test/adb_test.dart`.

In some cases, we've seen interactions between Instruments and the iOS
simulator that cause hung instruments and DTServiceHub processes. If
enough instances pile up, the host machine eventually becomes
unresponsive.
Until the underlying issue is resolved, manually kill any orphaned
instances (where the parent process has died and PPID is 1) before
launching another instruments run.

Previously, the snapshot file was recomputed on every build. We now
record checksums for all snapshot inputs (which are catalogued in the
snapshot dependencies file output alongside the snapshot) and only
rebuild if the checksum for any input file has changed.
Previously, xcodeMajorVersion and xcodeMinorVersion returned null unless
xcodeVersionSatisfactory had been called first. We now compute them on
demand, and cache the resultant values.

This is to resolve a failure that looks related to a bad install of Xcode 8.0
on our build bots and should be reinstated when the infra issue is diagnosed
and resolved.
Instruments worked well when this was originally landed, and on the
following commit, but started failing two commits after this originally
landed. Manual invocation of instruments on the build host currently
results in:

It appears the /Applications/Xcode8.0.app/Contents/Applications
directory (which contains Instruments) is missing on the host.
Moves all remaining calls to tools that are part of the libimobiledevice
suite of tools to the IMobileDevice class. This allows for better
tracking of this dependency, and easier mocking in tests.
Extract out IMobileDevice class, move class to idevice_id, ideviceinfo
(and eventually other libimobiledevice tools such as iproxy) behind this
interface.
Add tests for the case where libimobiledevice is not installed, the case
where it returns no devices, and the case where it returns device IDs.
Eliminates the need for the device/daemon code to get at the iOS/Android
tooling indirectly via Doctor. In tests, we now inject the workflow
objects (or mocks) directly.

Our emulator detection was based on a simple heuristic that was
failing for the Samsung Galaxy S8. Any heuristic is flawed since
Android devices can report whatever they want to adb, but this
change attempts to tighten the detection by listing known models
(by their ro.hardware property). Again, these values could be
spoofed by emulator system images, but it's less likely to be
an issue than with our previous (and fall-back) heuristic.

For some reaosn, when we discovered our URI, we were re-instantiating
the `Completer` instance variable whose future we listen to in `nextUri()`.
This led to a race between a caller calling `nextUri()` and us discovering
the URI. If we happened to discover our URI before a caller called
`nextUri()`, then they would be left waiting on a future from the newly
allocated `Completer` (which would never complete).

FlutterCommand.runCommand subclasses can optionally return a FlutterCommandResult which is used to append additional analytics.
Fix flutter run timing report and add a bunch of dimensional data
`adb` can sometimes hang, which will in turn hang the Dart isolate if
we're using `Process.runSync()`. This changes many of the `Device` methods
to return `Future<T>` in order to allow them to use the async process
methods. A future change will add timeouts to the associated calls so
that we can properly alert the user to the hung `adb` process.
This is work towards #7102, #9567
